Explore the best of Morocco over a week with our 7-day itinerary starting from Casablanca.

During your 7-day/6-night adventure, you’ll discover the wonders of Morocco beginning with the northern city of Casablanca, followed by the capital city of Rabat and the enchanting blue city of Chefchaouen. You’ll also explore the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, the Ismaili capital of Meknes, and the cultural hub of Fes. Then, heading south, you’ll visit the Switzerland of Morocco, Ifrane, and the stunning cedar forest. The journey continues with a visit to Midelt, the awe-inspiring Ziz valley, the traditional market of Rissani, and the fossil town of Erfoud.

As if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also get to experience the breathtaking Sahara desert of Merzouga. You’ll ride camels, spend the night in a luxurious camp in the heart of the desert, and marvel at the magical sunset and sunrise in the Sahara. Other highlights include the Todra and Dades gorges, and the historic Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. Finally, you’ll cross the majestic High Atlas mountains and the Tizi-n-Tichka pass before concluding your adventure with a guided tour of Marrakech city.

Day tour itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Casablanca

Upon arrival at Casablanca Mohammed V Airport, you will be greeted and taken on a brief visit to the thriving economic capital of Morocco, the city of Casablanca. If your flight arrives early, you can visit the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, the second largest mosque in the world with a capacity to hold 25,000 worshippers. It is located on a promontory overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy free time for lunch before exploring the city and the stunning Corniche of Casablanca. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 2: Casablanca – Rabat – Chefchaouen

After breakfast, travel along the coastline to the imperial city of Rabat, the current capital of Morocco, located on the northwest coast. Visit the city’s highlights including the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Kasbah of Oudaya. Enjoy free time for lunch before heading north through Ouazzane to reach the Blue City of Chefchaouen, located in the Rif Mountains, famous for its blue-painted buildings and alleyways. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 3: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes

After breakfast, enjoy a stroll through the blue alleyways of Chefchaouen before driving to visit the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its well-preserved ruins including beautiful mosaics, pillars, and archways. Next, visit Meknes, considered the Ismail capital and one of the imperial cities. Visit the Bab Al-Mansour, Sahrij Souani basin, the Royal stables, the granary, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. Then head to Fes for an overnight stay in a Riad.

Day 4: Guided tour of Fes

Today, spend the day exploring the Highlights of Fes city with a local guide. Start with the Royal Palace gate, then visit the well-preserved medieval Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which appears to be a labyrinth of alleyways and streets. Visit the Blue gate or Bab Boujloud, the Medrasa Bouanania, the Najjarine fountain, and the Tanneries. Next, visit the Quaraouin mosque and university, the oldest university in the world. Afterward, visit the Jewish quarter, also known as “the Mellah,” and drive to an ancient fortress for a panoramic view of the Medina and the city of Fes. Return to your Riad for the night.

Day 5: Fes – Ifrane – Cedars forest – Midelt – Ziz valley – Merzouga Sahara

After an early breakfast, begin your ascent across the Middle Atlas Mountains. Spend most of the day winding your way through beautiful lush forests, jagged rock faces, and Berber villages as you cross the Atlas Mountains and begin to descend towards the Sahara desert. Stop for lunch in the town of Midelt, famous for its fossils and rocks. Continue on mountain roads overlooking the wide flowing Oued Ziz, passing through kasbahs and palm groves, and head towards the adobe-colored city of Er-Rachidia and then Erfoud, famous for its date festival and fossils. From here, continue to the dunes of Merzouga for a dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.

 

Day 6: Explore Merzouga Region – Nomads – Khamlia – Merzouga Lake – Erg Chebbi – Palm Grove

Begin the day with breakfast, and set out to explore the Merzouga region which boasts incredible sites such as sand dunes, wild lakes, mines, fossil areas, and fabulous oases, ideal for various outdoor activities. Start the journey off-road to visit an ancient eyeliner mine, then pay a visit to the nomads in their handmade woven tents and learn how they live while sipping Berber tea. Next, head to Khamlia village to enjoy Gnaoua music and dance performances by the inhabitants who originate from sub-Saharan countries like Mali, Sudan, and Niger. Enjoy free time for lunch at a restaurant before taking a stroll in the palm tree grove. Then switch to camels and cross the sandy desert, making a stop on a high dune to enjoy the sunset before continuing to the desert camp. The camp combines traditional nomad tents and hotel luxury, where you can enjoy Berber drum music and dance around the campfire under the vast open sky of stars. Have dinner and spend an unforgettable night in the camp.

Day 7: Merzouga Sahara – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley

Wake up early to watch the sunrise spectacle and witness the stunning colors of the dunes and the play of shadows. After breakfast, return on camelback or by 4×4 and head back to Rissani and Erfoud. From Erfoud, set out behind the High Atlas Mountains on route to the Todra Gorges for lunch. In the afternoon, take a walk up the towering Todra Gorges with sheer cliffs of 985 feet high. The picturesque river valleys make for a beautiful journey towards the southeast of Morocco. Then continue the journey towards the impressive Dades Gorges, passing by the strange rock creations of Tamnalt Hills. Overnight in the heart of Dades Gorges lined by the red and mauve rocks. Spend the night in a hotel.

Day 8: Dades Valley – Roses Valley – Palm Groves of Skoura – Ouarzazate Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah- Telouet – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

Continue the trip to Kalaa Magouna to visit the Rose Valley where a Rose Festival is held annually in May, and locals offer their rose products including perfumes, rose water, oil, and cosmetic products. Drive through the palm groves of Skoura to reach Ouarzazate and visit the studios where famous movies were shot. Next, visit the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and which has appeared in many movies and TV series including Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, and Game Of Thrones. Then continue to Marrakech, driving through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass and the High Atlas Mountains with stops made for lunch and taking pictures at interesting spots. Finally, reach Marrakech, then be driven to the airport or your accommodation.

Day 9: Marrakesh Sightseeing Tour

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, we will embark on a guided tour of the most popular attractions in Marrakesh. As one of the four imperial cities in Morocco, Marrakesh is a hub of history and culture. During our visit, we will explore the Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs, and the Ben Youssef Quranic mosque. We’ll also take a stroll through the largest traditional souk in Morocco, where you can indulge in some shopping. For lunch, we’ll stop near the lively Jemaa El-Fna square. Later on, we’ll visit the Koutoubia mosque, the largest mosque in Marrakesh, and the beautiful Majorelle garden. Afterward, we’ll transfer you back to your accommodation, and you’re free to wander around Jemaa El-Fna at your own leisure.

Day 10: Marrakesh – Casablanca

On the final day of our tour, we’ll take a brief tour of Marrakesh before driving north to Casablanca airport.
