Its charm is undeniable with its whitewashed and blue-shuttered houses, art galleries, wood workshops, fishermen, and colorful boats; all enclosed by the ancient red walls of the Portuguese colonial age, and giant cannons still in place. The town faces a group of rocky islands and is surrounded by a clean sandy beach. Also, it is the perfect place to enjoy some local seafood depending on your tastes. Practice some of your favorite water sports including kitesurfing, surfing, or a banana boat ride. Essaouira is unlike Marrakech, Fes, and other Morocco imperial cities. It has a small Medina that you can explore and experience on your own, or you could hire a local guide if you want to learn more about its history.
