Imlil is easily accessible by road, with shared taxis and mini buses available to take visitors to nearby towns such as Asni and Ikkiss. The closest town to Imlil is Asni, where the popular Saturday market takes place.

While Imlil is now known as a tourist village, it was actually established relatively recently to cater to the influx of visitors en route to Toubkal. The original communities still thrive in the valleys around Tamatert, Ait Souka, Tagadirt, Tacheddirt, Achim, Taourirt n’Ait Mizane, Mzikene, and Arhrene.

Before becoming a hub for mountain tourism, the Imlil area was renowned for its production of walnuts, apples, and cherries. Although these industries still contribute to the local economy, they have taken a backseat to the thriving tourism industry. Both Moroccans and mountain tourists are drawn to Imlil for its cool climate, which provides a welcome escape from the scorching heat of the Haouz.
