Overview

1 Day Excursion from Marrakech to Ourika valley: The Ourika Valley, located at the foothills of the majestic Atlas Mountains, is a well-known day-trip spot for tourists visiting the bustling city of Marrakech in Morocco. With a more relaxed ambiance and cooler temperatures than the busy Red City, spending two days in this lush valley is a perfect way to extend your mountain getaway and experience the best trip from Marrakech.

Day tour itinerary

We will depart from your hotel or Riad in Marrakesh at 9:00 am and head towards the Ourika Valley, which is located at an altitude of approximately 1000m. Here, you will discover small villages characterized by red mud brick houses that hang on the sides of the mountains, terraced agriculture, and river banks. We will stop for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will take a walk to reach the waterfalls in the Ourika Valley before driving back to Marrakech.

There are several main attractions in the area that you can visit to enjoy the best trip from Marrakech, including:

Setti-Fatma: This is a small village from where visitors typically depart to see the waterfalls in the Ourika Valley. You can easily find an English-speaking guide when you arrive in the village.

Ourika Valley Waterfalls: If you enjoy the countryside and hiking, this will be your favorite part of the trip. It’s relatively easy to reach the first waterfall, but to get to the other six, you’ll need proper shoes and be able to climb. If the weather is warm enough, you can go for a swim in the Ourika river, although be warned that it is extremely cold.

Traditional Berber House: This visit allows you to see the traditional Berber way of life and a typical family house. However, be aware that this experience has become a staging for tourists. The father of the family will welcome you into his house and make you a mint tea, but on your way out, he may try to sell you handicrafts.

Traditional Markets: The most popular markets in the area are the Ourika Market (on Mondays) and the Aghbalou Market (on Thursdays). If you arrive in the region through the mountains, you can also visit the markets in Tahanaout (on Tuesdays) and in Asni (on Saturdays), which are also interesting bazaars.
