Day tour itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate (204 Km)
You depart in the morning by 4×4 car from Marrakech and travel to Ouarzazate. We will pass through the stunning High-Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi-n-Tichka pass (2260m). At panoramic viewpoints, there will opportunities to stop and take photos. Our first scheduled stop of the day is to visit the once glorious kasbah of Telouet. We then drive from Telouet through the lunar landscapes of the valley of Ounila to the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, where we have lunch. Ait Ben Haddou is a Unesco World Heritage site, where films such as Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia were filmed. In the afternoon, we explore the famous 11th century kasbah before leaving for Ouarzazate for the night in a hotel.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – valley Roses – Dades gorge – Todra Gorges (168 km)
You depart Ouarzazate in the morning where we will enter the Dades valley, which is known as the valley of a thousand kasbahs. Then we pass through the oasis of Skoura where architectural marvels are to be discovered at every turn. From here, our route takes us through Kela’a M’gouna, the valley of the roses, where over 4000 tons of roses are harvested every spring from this desert oasis! Next we drive off-road to the Dades gorges for lunch. The Dades gorge is breathtaking with its sheer red rocks and lush oasis, we will spend part of the afternoon strolling along the Boumalne Dades river. We are off to the Todra gorges for the second night. The Todra gorge, with its crystal clear waters, is a fantastic experience for any nature lover!
Day 3: Tinghir – N’Qob – Draa valley – Zagora (199 Km)
After breakfast, we go off-road from Tinghir to N’Qob, passing the Tizi-n-Tazzazert mountain in the Saghro mountain range to the village of N’Qob for lunch. From here our route takes us to the Dra’a valley at Tansikht in the afternoon, continuing south along the Draa valley and the ancient road of caravans until we reach the town of Zagora. Here, the dunes of Nekhla await you for a camel ride, dinner and the night in a bivouac of nomad tents.
Day 4: Zagora – Tamegroute – M’Hamid – Erg Chegaga Dunes
The return to Zagora is on camel back. From here the road leads south to Tamegroute where we stop to visit the Koranic library, the underground kasbah and the potteries. We reach M’hamid by the lunch time. In the afternoon, we make our way across another 65km of off-road driving through the varying features of the sahara desert; ‘erg’, ‘reg’, ‘hammada’, oases, to Erg Chagaga which, at 300m high and 45km long, are the largest in Morocco. These dunes afford a wonderful view of the setting sun, before returning to the campsite at the foot of the dunes for dinner and a night’s rest.
Day 5: Erg Chegaga – Iriquin Lake – foum Zguid – Taznakht – Agdez (471 Km)
After breakfast, the road crosses another 100km of off-road driving in the Moroccan sahara desert, passing the Iriqui lake and the mountains as well as fossils, for enthusiasts. The first village beyond the desert, Foum Zguid, is the place for lunch. In the afternoon, the return to the Draa valley takes us through Taznakht, famous for its carpet shops, and back to the Dra’a valley at Agdez for the night.
Day 6: Agdez – Anti-Atlas – Ouarzazate – High Atlas – Marrakech (371 Km)
After breakfast, there will be a visit to the Kasbah of Tamnougalte before driving to Ouarzazate, via the mountain pass of Tizi-n-Tinfifte (1660m). Once in Ouarzazate, we visit the kasbah of Taourirt, originally the residence of the Pasha of Marrakech and a symbol of the feudal period of the lords of Atlas. Afterwards, an unpaved track to the oasis of Fint nestling among the mountains, which once served as the crossroads of caravans, provides a hidden delight. Alternatively lunch will be in a little berber village in the High Atlas mountains! We reach Marrakesh by the end of the afternoon.
