Overview

This 8-day trip from Agadir to the Authentic South desert is packed with amazing sights and experiences. You’ll visit several Berber towns and villages, including Taroudant, known as “little Marrakech”, Talouine, which is famous for its saffron and even has a government-run museum dedicated to it, and Taznakht, where you can buy beautiful Berber rugs.

One of the highlights of the trip is a visit to the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site that has been used as a backdrop for many famous films. You’ll also get to see the Skoura oasis and the Kasbah Amredhil, as well as the stunning Draa Valley with its palm trees and ancient kasbahs.

In the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, you can visit a Damascene rose distillery and pick up some sweetly scented cosmetic products as souvenirs. The Dades Valley and Toudgha gorges are also incredible natural wonders that you won’t want to miss.

But perhaps the most unforgettable part of the trip is the camel ride to the top of the Erg Chebbi Dunes, where you’ll watch the sunset over the desert. Dinner will be traditional Moroccan cuisine, followed by music around a campfire. You’ll spend the night in an exotic tent in a luxury desert camp, which is the perfect way to end a day of adventure.

Finally, the trip includes visits to Essaouira and Agadir, as well as haggling in the souks and a guided tour of Marrakech.

Day tour itinerary

Day 1: Agadir – Taroudant – Taznakht – Taliouine– kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate

Morning departure from Agadir to Ouarzazate passing by Taroudant, known as “the little Marrakesh”, Taliouine and Taznakht. From here the road continues to the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This is the most famous Kasbah in Morocco and is a UNESCO World Heritage site, which we visit after lunch. In the afternoon, a visit to the Atlas Film Studios (where scores of these films were shot and the sets are still intact: Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Asterix and Obelix, Game of Thrones….) is scheduled, before continuing to Ouarzazate where you spend the night in a hotel.

Day 2: Ouarzazate – Draa Valley -Alnif – Risani – Merzouga

After breakfast, you will pass through Anti Atlas Mountains to Agdez village where the Draa valley starts. We head east to Nkob, a popular village for its 45 Kasbahs as a background of a palmary, through the arid Saharan landscapes till the largest oasis of Tafilalet appears. We continue deeper into the desert sand dunes of Erg Chebbi Merzouga. You will check into a hotel, dinner overnight at your accommodation.

Day 3: Explore Merzouga region – Nomads – Khamlia – Rissani – palm grove

After breakfast, you start your journey in Merzouga, by driving off-road to visit the nomads learn how they live while drinking a Berber tea. Our next destination is the Khamlia village, where you will enjoy the Gnaoua music, and dancing performances. Its inhabitants are originating from sub-Saharan countries like Mali, Sudan and Niger. Then continue way to Rissani where you visit a tradition Souk Market Free time for lunch in a restaurant. Then you balck to Merzouga You will switch to camels and cross the sandy desert. A stop will be made for you to enjoy the magical sunset on top of a high dune. Then continue to the desert luxury camp, where you can enjoy the Berber drums music while dancing around the campfire, under vast open sky of stars. Dinner and overnight in the camp.

Day 4: Merzouga  – Erfoud – Tinghir – Todra gorges – Dades valley – Dades Gorges

If you wake up early enough, you can watch the spectacle of the sunrise, when the color of the dunes and the play of shadows are an awesome sight.  After breakfast at the camp, we leave for Tinghir and the Toudgha gorges. On the way, you pass the water channels – “khettarat” – which you can descend into to appreciate the architecture and genius behind this form of irrigation which prevents evaporation in the summer heat. The channels start at a higher gradient at one end until they finally emerge at the surface of the soil where they are fed into the fields, in the gorge and the valley, there are opportunities to walk beyond the gorge itself or by the village gardens and fields before you reach it. Later the itinerary continues to the Dades Valley. The area, which now forms the Dades Gorges, lay at the bottom of the sea millions of years ago. Great quantities of sediment were deposited around giant coral reefs, and over time, this material became compacted into a variety of sedimentary rocks such as sandstone and limestone. Eventually, the movement of the earth’s crust caused the region to rise above the sea, forming the Atlas Mountains and surrounding landscape. The night is spent in a hotel or kasbah.

Day 5:  Dades Gorges – Roses valley – Skoura – Ouarzarate – Ait Ben Haddou – Telouet – Hight Atlas – Marrakech

After breakfast, the trip continues through the Valley of the Roses, famous for its Rose Festival in May, and past the kasbahs of Skoura, and where you can visit the small, interesting and intact Kasbah Amredhil, which used to be featured on the 50 dirham banknote. From there you pass Ouarzazate, you will continuing to Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a World Heritage site and the backdrop for many Hollywood blockbusters. It is the most famous Kasbah in Morocco. From there the road continues to Telouet, along the newly asphalted road. Telouet is set right in the midst of the mountains and was once the seat of the last Pasha of Marrakech, El Glaoui, from where the highest pass in Africa, Tizi-n-Tichka was controlled. At the end of the afternoon, we arrive in Marrakech overnight at Hotel.

Day 6: Marrakech (Sightseeing Tour)

After breakfast at the hotel, you will enjoy a full day guided city tour of Marrakesh with an English-speaking guide. The visit will include the beautiful palace of Bahia, the outstanding Saadian tombs, the Koutoubia mosque, the big square of Jemaa el-Fna, the breezing gardens of Majorelle as well as the colorful souks, with the artisans and handcrafts. Day 7: Marrakech – Essaouira

After breakfast, we will head towards to the coastal beach town of Essaouira. After around 3 hours, we reach this relaxed coastal town to visit the ancient medina walls, the big port as well as to have a walk along the beach. Lunch will be enjoyed in a typical Sea Food Restaurant (Optional). In the afternoon we will have some more time to explore Essaouira overnight at Riad.

Day 8: Essaouira – Agadir

After breakfast, you travel via vistas of the Atlantic Ocean during these last days, you take a break for views panoramic vistas finally, and we will reach by the end of the afternoon, Our driver will drop you off at your accommodation or drive you directly to the airport bringing your Agadir to Agadir desert tour to an end!
