Overview
This 9-day Sahara Desert trekking tour is the ultimate full desert experience. Starting from Marrakech, the trip takes you over the High Atlas Mountains and the famous Tizi-n-Tichka pass, passing beautiful, green, lush Berber villages. Along the way, you will visit the former palatial residence, Kasbah Telouet, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, providing insight into multi-generational Berber life.
The importance of oases for Berber existence can be seen in the Draa Valley, where there are thousands of palm trees and innumerable ancient Kasbahs. You will visit green glaze pottery co-operatives and the old Quranic library in Tamgroute. Later, you will arrive at a desert camp in the Erg Lihoudi dunes in Mhamid, where you will have dinner and rest for the night.
The magnificent camel desert trek will last for three days and three nights, allowing you to experience the most beautiful Sahara Desert in Morocco. You will cross different features of the great Sahara Desert, including “erg” sand dunes, “reg” rocky desert, “hammada” flat ground, and oases. All meals and camps will be prepared by your camel-men each day. You are free to walk or ride camels for about three hours in the morning and again in the afternoon.
On the fifth day, you will arrive at the vast remote Erg Chegaga dunes. Leaving Chegaga, you will witness more dunes and desert life, probably seeing nomadic dwellings on the way. The ancient geological development of the area can be discovered when looking for fossils at Lake Iriqui. Berber rug and carpet-making will be on display in Taznakht, with an overnight stay at a hotel in Ouarzazate.

Lunch will be in Foum Zguid, the first village after the desert. From here, the drive back to Ouarzazate is along paved roads via Taznakht, famous for its Berber carpets and rugs, and we arrive to Ouarzazate in the course of the afternoon, dinner and night in a hotel.
Day 8: Ouarzazate – Ouarzazate
Morning departure from Ouarzazate to the oasis of Skoura along a track to see all the kasbahs, some sadly in a state of disrepair but idyllically placed amongst the palm trees. Once back on the main road, the route passes through the valley of the roses with a stop in Kela’a M’gouna to have a berber tea. Later, a track leads us through the valley of the roses, also known as the road of a thousand kasbahs, to reach the Dades gorges for lunch, followed by a walk alongside the river. In the afternoon, we drive through the Boumalne Dades valley and arrive back in Ouarzazate at the end of the day, dinner and night in a hotel.
Day 9: Ouarzazate – Marrakech
After breakfast, there will be a visit to the kasbah of Taourirt, originally the residence of the Pasha of Marrakech and a symbol of the feudal period of the lords of Atlas. Afterwards, an unpaved track from Ouarzazate to the oasis of Fint nestling among the mountains, which once served as the crossroads of caravans, provides a hidden delight.
