Embark on a thrilling 4×4 day trip from your hotel or riad in Ouarzazate, departing at 8:00 am sharp. You’ll be driven through picturesque landscapes for approximately 45 minutes until you reach the stunning Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – the most renowned kasbah in all of Morocco, and a familiar sight from countless postcards. It’s also a popular filming location, having been featured in Hollywood blockbusters like “Alexander” and “Gladiator.” The Kasbah is located along the Salt River, approximately 30 kilometers from Ouarzazate, and is one of the nine UNESCO World Heritage sites in Morocco, designated as such in 1987.

Next, your journey will take you along the breathtaking Ounila Valley, all the way to Kasbah Telouet. This magnificent kasbah is nestled in a valley within the High Atlas Mountains, far removed from the main Marrakech road. Once a palatial residence and headquarters of the powerful Glaoui tribe, it is now split into three separate parts, with only one section being accessible to visitors due to safety concerns. However, the remaining sections still offer stunning views and impressive decoration, especially the furthest part of the kasbah. You’ll also want to climb up the narrow staircase to the roof for a panoramic view of the surrounding area. The head of the Glaoui family was the Pasha of Marrakesh, with the last of the Pashas being Thami Glaoui.

Finally, you’ll head back to Ouarzazate along the main Marrakech-Ouarzazate road, south of the Tizi-n-Tichka pass, before being dropped off at your riad in the late afternoon, marking the end of a truly unforgettable day trip to Ait Ben Haddou from Ouarzazate.
